Born in Portugal in 1959, Manuela Marques lives and works in Paris.
Manuela Marques’ photographic and video production is not one of abundance, but of sedimentation. This is why her images have a particular intensity, making the matter of things the matter of the image itself through atmospheric work, or dealing with subjects of gravity, from the weight of objects to that of celestial bodies.
Manuela Marques has presented solo exhibitions at the Musée d’art contemporain du Chiado, Lisbon (2022), Musée d’art moderne André Malraux- MuMa, Le Havre (2022), Arquipélago art center, Sao Miguel – Azores (2019), Musée de Lodève (2019), Musée Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2017), Château d’eau, Toulouse (2016), Circulo de Artes Plasticas, Coimbra (2015), Centre Régional de la Photographie du Nord-Pas-de-Calais (2015), Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian, Paris (2014).

The name « Coriolis force » expresses a scientific « calculation trick » for rotational motion, and specifies that the laws of mechanics change when we change our point of view. The Coriolis force thus explains celestial mechanics, such as the rotation of air masses around depressions and the geostrophic orientation of prevailing winds in both hemispheres. This video shows the dynamic meeting of two antinomic elements: stone (like an asteroid) and wind.
